DPDP Act FAQs
What is the Data Protection Board of India?
The Board is the adjudicating body established under Section 18 of the Act. It inquires into personal data breaches and complaints, directs urgent remedial or mitigation measures, and imposes monetary penalties. It functions as a digital office, with proceedings conducted digitally, and it has the powers of a civil court for matters such as summoning witnesses and requiring production of documents. Its orders are appealable to the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal. The Board's leadership was appointed during 2026, following the framework coming into force in November 2025.
