Legal health checks
Find out what you don’t know about your own legal position.
Free health checks on intellectual property, data protection and contracts, with a written, personalised report from our team within two working days.
Why we built these
Most legal problems are found late.
Not because anyone was careless. Because the questions that would have surfaced them (whose name is the trade mark actually in? does the freelancer who wrote our code own it? could we report a data breach within 72 hours?) are questions nobody thinks to ask until something has already gone wrong.
By then the options are narrower and the cost is higher.
These three health checks ask those questions. Each takes eight to fifteen minutes. What comes back isn’t an automated score. It’s a written report our team prepares from your answers, going through your position area by area, telling you what each finding means, what the law actually requires, and which items we’d deal with first if it were our business.
Some people read the report, fix a few things themselves, and we never hear from them again. That’s a perfectly good outcome, and it’s a large part of why we built these.
~30 questions · 12–15 minutes
Intellectual Property (IP) Health Check
For businesses whose brand, content, designs, inventions or know-how are part of what makes them valuable.
Questions like
- In whose name are your trade mark registrations actually held?
- When an agency built your website, did anyone sign an assignment?
- Did you know that publicly showing a new product design can destroy your ability to register it?
- Has anyone copied your brand or content, and did you keep the evidence?
Your report covers: trade marks and brand · copyright and content · patents and innovation · industrial designs · trade secrets · IP ownership in contracts · monitoring and management, plus any live matters your answers flag.
Particularly useful if: you’re raising funding in the next twelve months, listing on marketplaces, launching a new product, or you’ve already seen something in the market that looks a lot like yours.
~20 questions · 8–10 minutes
Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Readiness Check
For any organisation that holds personal data of customers, users, employees or vendors in digital form. That’s almost every organisation.
Questions like
- Is your privacy notice a standalone document, or is it buried inside your terms and conditions?
- Can a user withdraw consent as easily as they gave it?
- If a breach happened tonight, could you produce the report the Rules will require within 72 hours?
- Do you have written contracts with every vendor who processes personal data for you?
Your report covers: notice and consent · individual rights and grievance redressal · security and breach readiness · retention and erasure · vendors and processors · governance · children’s data · cross-border transfers.
Particularly useful if: you run a consumer app or website, hold data on children or students, use overseas cloud services, or have been asked about DPDP by a customer, an investor or your board. The substantive obligations take effect on 13 May 2027, and most organisations need nine to twelve months to prepare.
~20 questions · 10–12 minutes
Contract Health Check
For businesses that sign commercial contracts with customers, vendors, contractors or partners, and aren’t entirely sure what those contracts say.
Questions like
- Which party’s agreement template do you usually contract on: yours, or theirs?
- What is your liability capped at, and did anyone choose that number deliberately?
- Do your contractor agreements actually assign the work they create to you?
- Could you list, right now, which of your contracts auto-renew next quarter?
Your report covers: standard terms and customer contracts · confidentiality and NDAs · employment and contractor agreements · vendor contracts · liability and indemnities · dispute resolution · execution and e-signature validity · contract management.
Particularly useful if: you’re scaling a services business, contracting mostly on customer templates, using freelancers or contractors, or preparing for diligence.
How it works
Three steps. Two working days.
Answer the questions
Multiple choice throughout. No documents to upload, nothing to prepare. “Don’t know” is a valid answer, and often the most useful one, because not knowing is itself a finding we can help with.
Our team prepares your report
We review your responses against the current legal position and write up what they mean for a business like yours. It isn’t a template with your name inserted.
It arrives by email within two working days
A written report you can read, forward to your co-founder or your board, and act on. Whether you act on it with us is entirely up to you.
What you actually get
A real report, not a score.
- A plain-language read on where you stand overall, in words, not a meaningless number out of 100.
- The items we’d deal with first, sorted by urgency: what to act on now, what to address this year, and what to strengthen when you can.
- Any live matters flagged separately: situations already in motion (a dispute, a notice, a suspected copy) that need attention regardless of how the rest scores.
- A section-by-section walkthrough: for each area, where you stand, what it means, and what good practice looks like.
Reports run to roughly three to four pages. What a report is not: it isn’t an audit, a certification or a compliance opinion. It is built from what you tell us, without any review of your documents, filings or systems.
The checks run on Google Forms. Your answers are used to prepare your report and kept for 12 months, as our Privacy Policy explains. Completing a check does not make you our client.
Frequently asked questions
How long does each health check take?
The DPDP Readiness Check takes about eight to ten minutes, the Contract Health Check about ten to twelve, and the IP Health Check about twelve to fifteen. All questions are multiple choice and you don't need to look anything up.
Is it really free?
Yes. There's no charge and no payment step. It's a legal awareness initiative by BRB Legal.
When will I get my report?
Within two working days of submitting the form. Please use your official work email so the report reaches you and isn't filtered.
Can I take more than one?
Yes, and many organisations do. They cover different risks and there's no overlap in the questions.
Is this legal advice?
No. Each report is a preliminary assessment for general awareness, based only on your questionnaire responses. No lawyer–client relationship is created, and no documents of yours are reviewed. Don't act, or refrain from acting, on a report alone.
Can I show the report to an investor or a customer?
You're welcome to share it inside your organisation. But it's prepared for you from your own unverified answers, so it isn't something a third party should rely on — it is not an audit or a certification, and it doesn't evidence a compliance position to anyone asking you for one.
What if I don't know the answer to a question?
Choose "Don't know" or "Not sure." It's a genuine answer, and it's reflected in your report as an area to investigate.
Do you need to see my contracts or registrations?
No. Nothing needs to be uploaded. That's also the limitation — the report is based on your description of your position, not on a review of your documents.
Who will see my responses?
Only the BRB Legal team preparing your report, and the form platform that hosts the questionnaire and processes responses on our instructions. We don't sell your data or pass it to anyone for their own purposes.
Can I have my data deleted?
Yes, at any time, by writing to privacy@brb-legal.com. You may also access or correct it, or withdraw your consent.
Will you follow up with me?
Your report includes an offer of a short call at no charge. If you don't take it up, we won't chase you.
Are these based on current Indian law?
Yes. The DPDP Readiness Check reflects the DPDP Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025 notified in November 2025. The others reflect the Trade Marks Act, 1999, Copyright Act, 1957, Patents Act, 1970, Designs Act, 2000, the Indian Contract Act, 1872, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and related legislation. Law changes; each report states the date it was prepared.
