What is a trade mark?

A trade mark is any sign that distinguishes the goods or services of one business from those of others and can be represented graphically: a word, name, logo, slogan, shape, packaging, combination of colours or, in some cases, a sound. It is defined in section 2(1)(zb) of the Trade Marks Act, 1999.
